A Brief narrative on our history, activities and goals.

The club was founded in the summer of 1996. The first Friday of September 1996 we had our first meeting. September 4, 1996 we became Incorporated/50 members.

The founders realized that Thurman was the missing link between the Prospect Mountain trails and Speculator. They knew that there use to be trails on private, state and county lands. If they could find them - and get permission to use them - they may be able to connect and not have to trailers their sleds to ride.

What a beautiful place Thurman would be for a trail system. The mountain views, the abundance of wild life, the beautiful blue skies, the fresh air....
and 5 groomers operating on 118 miles of scenic Adirondack Mountain trail.

Some of the members who started the first snowmobile club in Thurman The Schroon Hudson Ridge Runners helped point the guys in the right directions. This made it a lot easier to find some of the old trails. There was still a lot of old trail markers on trees.

They spent every waking moment looking for trails, looking at tax maps getting names & addresses, going door to door to get permission from private landowners to clear trails and cross private land. Ninety percent of the landowners they talked to let us through. There is not enough we can say or do to thank the private landowners for their generosity. Without their support there would be know trail system.

Next the guys went door to door asking everyone they knew who had a sled to make a donation so that they could start the club, become incorporated and buy trail insurance. There was no grant money to help us out the first year.

With a great deal of help from Palmer Brother's & Northern Warren trails Blazers the Thurman Connections was now a dream come true for some real hard working guys.

We like to make all of our functions family oriented. The first Saturday in February we have a family out door fun day. We all ride our sleds to Brown dog's field in Thurman and we have Hamburg's, hot-dogs, hot chocolate, ice skate, and slide down hill.

Main fun raiser-In March 1997 after our first successful winter of riding our own trails we had our first annual Blizzard Blast at Thousand Acres ranch resort in Stony Creek, NY. The Blizzard Blast is now a yearly event. Each member in the club makes a hot or cold dish to add to a buffet style dinner, there is a live band, D.J, Door Prizes and a sled raffle a year. We start selling raffle tickets for the sled in October at the annual world 's Largest Garage sale in Warrensburg, NY.

The last Saturday in July we also have a little get together Picnic to see how everyone is doing and start discussing the trail work that needs to be done.

Although we enjoy talking to other snowmobile enthusiast we decided during the 2002-2003 season we would set up a Snow Phone (518-6234050) with information on trail conditions and up coming events.

When the club first began in 1996 we had 60 miles of trail the first year. In 2003 we now have 118 Miles of trail that connect Prospect to Speculator and over 200 members.

We have meetings every last Friday of the month at the Thurman Town Hall in Athol, NY Taking a break from club business from May-until we resume meetings at the end of August.
